Carbs and Protein during recovery

Carbs may be controversial to we paleo types - (I'm not that paleo actually - I like my cream and the odd spud!) - but here are a couple of new studies indicating that carbs plus protein after exercise benefits recovery:

Co-ingestion of protein with carbohydrate during recovery from endurance exercise stimulates skeletal muscle protein synthesis in humans.

Effects of an amino Acid carbohydrate drink on exercise performance after consecutive-day exercise bouts.

Thanks Chris - have you ever seen any studies that also or instead look at the effects of protein and carbohydrate intake when exercise is more intermittent? As a Devany-ist on exercise frequency, I almost never have consecutive days of exercise, or if I do, they are brief enough that it does not matter, so I wonder whether under these conditions there is any benefit to post-workout nutrition in the same way.

Hi

I don't know, can't think of anything. I'll keep my eyes open though.

Cream is not considered a high-carb food. It is very high in healthy fats.

Paleo diet proponents don't eat dairy, including cream, because hunter-gatherers are believed not to have milked animals, given that domesticated livestock did not exist "way back when". All people are allergic on some level to bovine dairy products. People like Art Devany believe that dairy consumption raises levels of inflammation. Just because you don't notice the symptons doesn't mean it has a serious impact on your long-term health.
