As a halfway decent distance runner, I think this is absolutely true. Weak hips/glutes and high heeled shoes are, collectively, the reason so many people claim their knees won't let them run.

Perhaps indeed, but "Ten case-control, but no prospective studies were identified. " - heavy dose of salt required.

Care needs to be taken when speaking of weakness -- the study showed timing issues (delayed onset and shorter duration of activation). If the problem is weakness then yes, we train for strength. However too often we try to strengthen something that in fact has a timing problem -- a different issue.
