Oh puuhleeez. If the science is based on the "fat zone myth" then it isn't science. Crank those lard-butts up to 75% for the same time as the HIIE and then see what happens.
75% Vo2max (which corresponds to about 83% of maximum heart rate)is not possible to maintain for any length of time by unfit, overweight people. Therefore the puuhleeez-poster's suggestion is of no practical relevance.

The thing is, 60% of vo2 max is what is often prescribed for people to "stay in the fat burn zone", so I think is is a valid comparison.
