Trick or Treat

I like Barry Groves. It was through his book Eat Fat Get Thin: Eat As Much As You Like And Still Lose Weight! that I first started learning about low carb high fat diets. Much of the material for that book is available on his website and it is worth browsing around there if you are interested in this sort of thing.

Anyway, he just sent me an email regarding a new book: Trick and Treat: How Healthy Eating is Making Us Ill: How Healthy Eating Is Making Us Ill

My latest book, "Trick and Treat: How 'healthy eating' is making us ill", which I started in 1989, will be published in 11 days time (28 October), but it is already attracting a great deal of media attention.

Trick and Treat, takes the lid off the corruption, misinformation and fraud within the 'health industry', focusing on the misleading 'healthy' diet and lifestyle advice we are all given by 'the experts', and detailing the vast amount of harm it is doing. The title was chosen as the book shows how the 'health industry' TRICK us into an unhealthy lifestyle so that they can TREAT us for the resultant conditions. T&T is supported by over 1,100 references from peer-reviewed medical journals and other learned works (54 pages of small print).

The fact that health advice today has little basis in science hasn’t gone entirely unnoticed by the medical profession; several minent physicians have recently coming out against 'healthy eating'.

For example, Dr Barnett Kramer of the US National Institutes of Health said of ‘healthy eating’: ‘A lot of the public is completely unaware that the strength of the message is not matched by the strength of the evidence.’ And Professor Sylvan Lee Weinberg, a past president of the American College of Cardiology and formerly a staunch supporter of ‘healthy eating’, stated that: ‘this diet can no longer be defended ... by rejecting clinical experience and a growing medical literature suggesting that the much-maligned low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet may have a salutary effect on the epidemics in question.’

I hope that Trick and Treat, my largest book, by putting the evidence before the public, will bang a very large nail in the coffin of this hugely damaging health fraud.

The Mail on Sunday, this weekend, will carry a full-page article by me (probably in Part 2, to replace William Rees-Mogg's usual page) ; the Daily Telegraph will also have a large article and photo(s) the following day (20 October); and the Daily Express will carry an article on 28 October -- and a counter by the British Heart Foundation. There will also be reports, reviews and articles in lay and medical magazines, but I haven't got any details yet.

If anyone feels like writing in my support to the various papers, I would appreciate it.

Trick and Treat will be available in book shops and online at places like Amazon.
