The Case for minimalist footwear

Just a couple of great resources if you are interested in finding out more about the benefits of going barefoot .... or almost barefoot:

Damien has a great series which includes a video

John has a written a definitive guide to going barefoot.

I was intrigued by this when you mentioned it before, but also a little skeptical.

John Sifferman shows a downward shot of his feet, and sure enough they're perfectly aligned. Mine aren't, they stick out to the sides at an alarming angle. Maybe shoes did cause that, but maybe it's too late to fix now (I'm in my forties). I had knee problems walking that were fixed by buying sport shoes specifically boosted and reinforced in the arch to prevent over-pronation.

I just worry that I could make things worse if I go barefoot.

Still, it has captured my interest. I emailed "five fingers" to see if I could get their goods somewhere in NZ, but they didn't even bother to reply, so I guess not.
