Walking....

I just read this in "Walking - the Complete Guide to the Complete Exercise" by Casey Myers:

In today's wild animal kingdom, running is used only as a survival gait. Dr Lovejoy said he doesn't know of any animal that runs more than 3 minutes at a time in its natural environment.

....... it is apparent that we are misusing the running gait when we employ it for prolonged periods of exercise.

Please correct me if I am wrong - this is off the top of my head - but a) animals like wolves and wild dogs run for long periods when hunting or moving hunting grounds and b) when animals such as wildebeest migrate they also run for long periods. But more importantly, what is the relevance of comparing quadrupeds to us bipeds?!
