A mouthful of carbs improves exercise performance....but don't swallow!

Having carbs in your mouth even if you can't taste them or even if you don't swallow improves exercise performance.

Oral carbohydrate sensing and exercise performance.

Weird.

Just goes to show you that some of "fatigue" is purely neurological and can be overcome with a "placebo" effect to trick the body that you're fueling it.

Pretty interesting stuff. The nervous system is quite capable of a large amount of plasticity that most never thought it should have.

Not weird - you can absorb sugar sublingualy, and saliva contains amylase which will break down starch into sugars.
